Since the Lochty Ladies Golf Club was formed in 1924, the Caley had provided them with accommodation - evidence, one would have thought, of a commendably liberal attitude to the vexed question of equality between the sexes. This was put to the test in 1934 when a motion 'to admit ladies to the clubroom' was placed before the AGM - and failed! It was not until 1989 that this decision was finally reversed. At the AGM on the 28th of June it was resolved that the constitution and rules of the club be amended to permit the admission to membership of the Club of Lady Associate Members.

Lady Associate Members started with 11 members in 1990, in 1991 we had 24 lady associate members. This figure has steadily risen. 1992 was 63; 1993 - 67; 1994 - 73; 1995 - 81; 1996 - 95. In 1997, a motion was passed to amend the constitution to remove any differentiation between male and female members in terms of membership status and subscription levels. The constitution also amended that there should be Club Captain male and female, a Ladies' Match Secretary as well as a Men's Match Secretary. 1998 was the first time Ladies were full members, all 103 of them.

Ladies' Fixtures
Competitions are over the Burnside Course unless stated otherwise. We hold a Mixed Knockout Competition on the Buddon; Greensome Competition on the Championship, Caledonia Cup on the Burnside; Rosebowl on the Championship; Captain's Trophy held on the Buddon. Summer and Winter Electics will run over both Burnside and Buddon Courses. A Monthly Medal is played for on the 3rd Thursday of the month on the Burnside course. We have introduced a few new fixtures, eg Millennium Trophy played on the Buddon and Burnside Course with the combined total as the winner. We introduced a Ben Hogan competition to mark a great player, two rounds on the Championship Course. The Ladies' section also has annual matches against Blairgowrie, Forfar, and St Regulus golf clubs.

We have a few 'fun' evenings, e.g. Texas Scramble, Captain v. Vice Captain, with meals and fun afterwards. It is always decided to support charities, e.g. Cancer Relief and Barnados, through the year.

The Ladies' section of Caledonia Golf Club has about eighty members, some of which are juniors. We could always do with any new members, young or old - so please have a look at our section on the club membership page. The Caledonia Ladies' section has got great players who have done very well this season. Katie McNicol who has travelled all over the country getting great results, and Claire Penman who jetted off to Sun City to play after qualifying in the AEG Tournament. Well done!

There have been some great scores over the summer competitions, so the Ladies' Prize-giving Dinner in November should be well attended for celebrations of our competitive year and a friendly social afterwards. The ladies take part in the William Low Coastal League in which we need teams to play each different course. The Ladies section can always do with new members or fresh ideas, so please do not hesitate to contact us.
